CONFERENCE & AWARDS DELIVERED FOR HMV
Having been invited to tender for the HMV May conference and Awards, we responded by presenting an informal set design and room wrap rather than the more familiar stage and presentation platform usually associated with company conferences. Our overriding aim was to enhance the sense of communication, teamwork and togetherness, which was a key theme of the brief.
After a series of briefing presentations lasting the full day, delegates enjoyed the convivial atmosphere of the Brighton sea-front whilst the Mulberry crew were busy transforming the main conference room into a spectacular Awards platform ready for the evening ceremony.
After dinner and prior to the Awards themselves, the first stage of the entertainment began with the World Beat-Box Champion, Beardyman, who quite literally stunned the audience of music aficionados with his amazing talent and unique ‘musical’ rendition. Before the applause had died down, our guest star of the evening, comedian Alan Carr took to the stage and had the audience completely (if only metaphorically) eating out of his hands!
The Awards themselves produced some very proud winners and good natured regional rivalry from stores across the UK and Ireland. The evening didn’t end with the awards…….music was provided by Brian Cheetham and Seamus Haji, the HMV Fun Casino brought out the competitive nature of some and the bar proved also to be a big attraction!
Day 2 of the conference gave way to Action on the part of the delegates. This wasn’t a typical conference, as delegates were encouraged to be pro-active. A series of interaction and discussion groups reviewed the information they had received from the day before. They then planned for some strategic changes and tested their own musical and film knowledge using an interactive key-pad voting system in the end of conference quiz - a nail biting affair that produced the winning team only on the last question!
Mulberry was delighted to have provided and implemented a seamless programme…
”We trust that the client was happy with the services provided and we in turn learned a lot about HMV - how they work and what they expect” said Martin Chick, a Director of Mulberry who continued,”It is very important for us to understand the expectation levels of every client and then create the solutions for them to be achieved, I believe we succeeded with this programme”.
Steve West, HR Director, commented:
“The HMV annual conference and Gala Dinner is a key event in our business calendar – playing a crucial role in the communication process. On the one hand, it provides senior executives the opportunity to update managers on trading performance and strategic plans for the year ahead. On the other, it should create an entertaining and enjoyable platform to celebrate the company’s
achievements – in particular to acknowledge the outstanding individual and team contributions made over the previous twelve months.
“A successful conference will not only facilitate all these requirements through excellent presentation techniques and set design, but will also encourage the active participation and feedback of all it's delegates. Ultimately, they should return to their teams highly motivated, with a clear understanding of the company’s goals and a passionate determination to work closely with colleagues to deliver these and, through them, their teams, while also giving the platform to outline the strategic initiatives and plans for the twelve months ahead.
“A conference that is well organised and thought through will also encourage feedback and the active participation from the delegates
