Julie Waldron, Chief Executive of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health NHS Trust Foundation 'kicked off' proceedings for the celebration of World Mental Health Day quite literally by starting the six-a-side football tournament. Service users and service provider teams battled it out to claim the champion team prize which was kindly provided by Oxford United Football club with 12 tickets for their home match against York on November 1st. In addition, signed shirts and a ball were also dontated and four team members helped to present them.
IApart from the football, the day featured the Artscape Sculpute Trail Opening and the Artscape Awards and Music festival.
Throughout the day, all guests were able to enjoy the music, watch some very competetive football and to enjoy the sculptures which had been positioned around the lawned area of the hospital. Visits from the Lord Mayor of Oxford, Sharon Bowles the Liberal Democrate MEP and also from local hero Martin Keown the former England and Arsenal player, the day proved to be a fantastic success.
In the evening, dinner was held in the marquee followed by the Artscape Awards presentations and then a remarkable mixture of music with a very diverse content provided by professional musicians and service users themselves.
Even the weather played its' part by producing a glorious autumn day with sunshine, little wind and no rain! The event finished with all guests and staff agreeing that it had been a great success.
